Charter Oak School, Schuline, Illinois

Picture

Located near the peaceful, rural community of Schuline, Illinois, Charter Oak School is one of the few remaining octagonal-shaped, one-room school buildings in America and the only one of its kind in Illinois.  It was the cornerstone of education for hundreds of rural children for nearly a century, from 1873 until 1953 when it was closed due to consolidation.

Join us the 1st Saturday in August on the grounds of the Charter Oak School for Corn Fest and enjoy a feast of fried chicken, sweet corn on the cob, fresh tomatoes and our legendary Indian pudding!

For information or to schedule tours contact Kenneth Yallaly or Fran Hawkins at 618-443-2812.
